Dot-Eco

Tags: , ,

dot ecoWe currently have dot-com, dot-net, dot-gov, dot-org, and even dot-biz; next up is dot-eco.  Two groups are currently going toe-to-toe in who is going to manage this new internet domain suffix  One group is in B.C., Vancouver, called Big Room , the other is located in Los Angeles, called Dot Eco.  Do we really need a dot-eco domain?  Nonetheless this will not only serve as a marketing tool for companies who wish to show their “green” side, but hopefully act as a fundraising tool as well.  Revenues generated from the sell of these domain names will go to environmental causes.

There is a small catch.  Once this new domain is launched, they say in 2010, not just anyone will be able to register for it.  In other words, there will be a set of eligibility standards applicants would have to meet.  One idea is having applicants set up a profile outlining their sustainability initiatives.  But this leaves the question, who will verify this?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Both companies have strong supporters.

I’m writing to tell you all about an exciting grant opportunity for environmentalists. Carbon14, a new outdoor and active lifestyle brand, is celebrating the launch of its three new lines of watches—AIR, WATER, and EARTH—by hosting a competition that will award $50,000 to one deserving contestant selected by the public! We hope that Green Girls Global readers will submit!

Whether you’re developing solar technology, working to promote animal rights, or researching a substitute for crude oil, you are eligible to win this competition!

How It Works:

Contestants should visit www.c14time.com and submit a 30-second video and brief essay explaining their projects as well as photographs of themselves.

Voting on first round of entries will conclude on February 28th, the last night of the Winter Olympics. The judges will make their selections of the top five entries by March 22nd and the public will have until April 5th to vote for the winner, who will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2010.

The Judges:

besides me being an editor at GGG, a freelancer expertising  community and presence marketing, I also have the privilege of running the most USEFUL podcast in the world called “Geek Army Knife”. Last interview was with Sanjay Khanna of Khanna research where we talked about calm technologies and the things that Orwell didn’t predict… it resulted in a very good episode where we talk about Green and how you are supposed to act on it in the future – enjoy it here

Also according to treehugger.com – Denmark is going to have the world largest fleet of electric hydrogen fuelcell cars..

I will keep you posted when the hydrogen station infrastructure gets going here
