product review: Verē Chocolates

Posted on 09 January 2007

Through Green Girls Global I had the extreme good fortune of being able to sample these chocolates over the holidays.  I received a box with a variety of these gourmet chocolates and decided to share with friends and family in order to get their opinion as well.  All I heard was “Mmmm and Oooh this is sooo good!”

Verē chocolates (pronounced: very) are not only good chocolates but good for you!  It is the healthiest chocolate available, so healthy in fact it would be good for you to eat everyday.  Here are some facts I found very interesting:

They are low in sugar (less than an apple), loaded with antioxidants, they add inulin (a fiber and prebiotic) to promote healthy digestion, and they use all natural sweeteners as not to cause a spike in blood sugar levels.  This is why Verē is called “Chocolates with Benefits”.

Everyone’s favorites were the fruit and nut tiles.  Chocolate square tiles sprinkled with dried fruit and nuts, my cousin and niece loved the truffles, and I wouldn’t dare share the pure chocolate bar!

I would hardly classify Verē as just candy as its name means “real, authentic” in Latin.  This is the one chocolate I feel safe in serving even to my diabetic friend, as well as those of us who continually say how we are going to cut back on our sweet intake.  There aren’t too many items out there that you could share with a child, vegan, diabetic, etc….you get the picture.  Plus they meet all the other requirements we greens tend to look for in things, organic, sustainable, and fair wages paid to the workers.

[*Interesting Tidbit:  the owner Kathy Moskal is also the same person who created the hosiery line called HUE!  I have lots of their stockings!!]

With the ever popular chocolate giving holiday called Valentine’s Day coming up soon (I already see the decorations in the stores!) this is the perfect box of chocolates to give to someone you really like Verē much!
