Thanks Kristine for this informative post. Yes, a lot of us use cosmetics that have harsh chemicals in them that can cause harm to the body. We have to make a concerted effort to ensure that the ingredients used in the cosmetics have no harmful effects on the skin or the body. Thanks for the useful information on organic deodorants and anti-perspirants.

Great post!

Hi all,

Just thought I would post some replies to your comments.

@Dave - If it is not an option to stop using an anti-perspirant due to your work or an activity, then perhaps only use the anti-perspirant for the time you need to and then revert to a deodorant afterwards. My husband is a fitness instructor and teaches 4-5 classes in a row and only uses a natural deodorant. They do take getting used to, but he would never change back now.

@Roy - There is no definitive research either way to highlight the effects of Aluminium Chlorohydrate (normally the one in deodorants) as is with most research. The fact is though the Aluminium is a neurotoxin and increased levels could be harmful, so using products with this ingredient could add to this. The main reason not to use it though, is because it blocks the pores and stops the body from carrying out is natural process of sweating.

@Carla - As above Carla, it is probably to do with the pores being blocked and could also be to do with an allergic reaction to the other synthetic ingredients.

Hope this helps,

Thanks

When I used antiperspirants, I used to get painful boils on my armpits - I didnt know where they came from. Once I stopped using antiperspirants and switched to deodorant only, they went away.
