News Flash: China Taxes Plastic Bags

Posted on 11 January 2008

Gosh…China has taxed plastic bags !!! I have just read that from June of this year shops in China will not be giving away plastic bags. If shoppers need a bag they will have to buy one. I think this is fantastic news….lets hope it wont be long before other countries follow suit.

That is great news, we really must keep campaigning to get rid of plastic bags. Everyone needs to get into the habit of taking reusable bags to the shop, I have loads of cotton and string bags that I keep in my rather large work bag ready to carry whatever I need to (whether food vegetables from the market or books from the library). I notice that men tend to shy away from resuable bags so lets encourage them to do so – perhaps there is a niche in the market for more masculine styled reusable shopping bags.
