National Tree Week in Nottingham

Posted on 23 November 2006

TreeI love it when I hear about National Something Week, especially if its carries a positive message and it so happens that National Tree Week has just begun! Running from 22nd November to 3rd December (isn’t that a bit longer than a week?) the Tree Council urge us to celebrate the winter tree planting season with them.

I have to say this is a new one to me but actually National Tree Week started in 1975 following from the National Tree Planting Year in 1973 which held the snappy the slogan “plant a tree in 73!”.

Attenborough Nature Centre in Nottingham is getting involved and holding a children’s activity day on Sunday 26th November. Go along and dress a tree or play tree detectives and learn how to identify trees in winter. Find out more from the Attenborough Tree Activity Day poster.

Other tree related events happening in Nottinghamshire during National Tree Week are:

Monday 29th November – A talk about Martin’s Pond and Harrison’s Plantation
Wollaton 7.30pm at Siemens Energy Services offices in Woodyard Lane, off Lambourne Drive, Wollaton.
Charge £1 including refreshments.

Tuesday 30th November – Beeston Sidings
Help improve the drainage by thinning out willow trees around Dunkirk fishing pond.

Wednesday 1st December – Clifton Woods
Sycamore thinning at Clifton Woods.

For more information visit the Nottingham City Website or call 0115 931 3316

Celebrate trees and forests by planting a new tree in your garden or organise your own event. Get ideas and dowload a publicity poster from the Tree Council’s website.
