Name: Vicky Stevens

Where I live: Nottingham, UK

What I do: Run a web design company called Make Hay ethical e-media with my husband Jez. The purpose of Make Hay is to support businesses and organisations who want to make a positive difference. We employ green ways of working and have an ethical policy which guides us. We also provide a Green Hosting service for websites which is run on renewable energy. Our very own Green Girls Global and Green Guys Global are indeed wind powered websites!

I also manage and coordinate both GGG blogs, dealing with enquiries and publicity, recruiting editors and maintaining the websites - and writing posts in between.

I’m involved with a local Fairtrade campaign called ‘Gedling Fairtrade Group‘. We work to raise the profile of Fairtrade in our borough and aim to support farmers and producers in developing countries with our campaigning.

I feel strongly about animal welfare and have an interest in natural history and comparative psychology. Also, when time allows I try to have a go at growing our own veggies but I’m not a natural green fingers!

I love craft and design and am involved in a craft group where I live (called Stitched Up). Every now and then I have been known to lock myself away with my sewing machine or sand down an old piece of furniture to make it pretty again.

What I’ll be talking about on GGG: I’ll no doubt write about a wide range of topics but you’ll probably find that some of my articles address issues around green and ethical business, fashion and style and things that are happening in Nottingham.

What inspires me: Nature, my family and friends, the wonderful world of the web, beautiful design, books, honesty, strength, integrity - an endless number of things!

Who I look up to and respect: So many people that I know and love. I have huge respect for people who stand up for what they believe in, even in the most dangerous situations. It’s not an easy thing to do and there are times when we feel we’re not able to speak up or follow our hearts, so I’m inspired by those who can and do. It makes me want to be that way too.

What I want for the future: I want more people to understand that whatever they do it has a knock-on effect, whether that is on the environment or people. I really believe that if this was considered more by everyone then it would make a difference. I think people would live in isolation less and support each other more and everyone needs that. I know I have to work on this too.

One last thing: I really hope you enjoy Green Girls Global and Green Guys Global and that it inspires you to contact us or do something really positive. There’s always so much to learn so I’d love to hear your views, comments and ideas.
