Where I live: Littlehampton, West Sussex, UK
What I do: I work four days a week for an animal welfare charity called ‘Seal Protection Action Group‘, my responsibilities include fundraising, communications and campaign work. I am also studying with the Open University, working towards a degree in Environmental Studies.
What I’ll talk about on GGG: I will be talking about a range of topics but mainly focussing on nature and wildlife conservation, cycling, gardening and sustainable living.
What inspires me: Every day I get inspiration from my family, friends and work colleagues all of whom are amazing and strong people. I also enjoy reading scientific publications about the environment, the more I read about human based climate change and environmental damage - the more inspired I am to take my eco lifestyle further and also to work harder to make a real difference.
Who I look up to and respect: Anyone who does not give up on life and who works hard to improve themselves, society and the environment in which they and we all live. Specific role models include Caroline Lucas the Green Party’s South East MEP who has such amazing energy and campaigns on a range of issues, David Attenborough who has enthused generations of people into the wonders of wildlife, Josie Dew who travels the world on her bike and inspires others to get cycling and my long term role model the late Audrey Hepburn who was beautiful, stylish and a fantastic charity supporter including her famous work with UNICEF.
What I want for the future: A higher percentage of habitats designated as protected areas – including the sea, more green spaces in urban areas, less noise and light pollution, less cars and more people cycling and walking, environmental education included in the curriculum for all age groups and a society in which we all feel safe to live in, everyone has clean water, healthy food and a better quality of life.
One last thing: “Think Global, Act Local”. I urge GGG readers to take small steps in improving their local environment as the butterfly effect of small changes can make to help a bigger difference globally. We really do have the power to make a positive difference - Green Girls Global United.
