I’m interested in knowing whether most people think celebrity involvement is good or bad for the environment (or for that matter any other cause they may get involved in).

I tend to think that as long as celebrities are sincere about their cause (e.g. Bono, Al Gore), their high profile can be instrumental in creating change. Love it or hate it, most of us live in a society obsessed with celebrity.Ecorazzi.com

That’s why I like this new site called Ecorazzi.com. It profiles and promotes celebrities who “use their fame as a vehicle to highlight and educate on issues important to them.” For example, a recent posting on Ecorazzi celebrates Pamela Anderson’s new-year resolution to get more involved in environmental and social issues. The site also criticizes celebs for un-green behaviour including J-Lo’s fur wearing and Ashlee Simpson’s bottled water drinking.

Say what you want about the frivolity of a celebrity-obsessed culture, I think Ecorazzi.com may help instill a momentum of change amongst the mainstream by helping to promote conscious celebrities and the charitable and environmental work they are doing.

But I’d love to know what you think or hear about any other sites or organizations leveraging celebrity to engage the mainstream.
