I read last week that Dunoon is aiming to become the first town in Scotland to stop shops from giving away plastic bags. The organiser Caroline Cuddihy has been inspired by Modbury in Devon, the UK’s first plastic bag-free town.
There’s more in the Dunoon Observer, and whilst looking for more information on the scheme I came across the Sort It website, which helps those of us in Scotland to reduce, reuse and recycle. You can search by local authority to find recycling facilities, where you can buy food that isn’t overpackaged, carpooling and much more.

whilst i admire the fact that we have became more eco friendly and there are peps like Caroline out there standing up for what they believe in. I might draw your attention to the fact that this woman has the bare face cheek to challenge people on recycling when she drives a jeep and her husband also drives a jeep and has a bike not the peddel kind . also does not alway use friendly eco products in her hair dressing salon , and to top it all was seen coming out of the coop with guess what.. a plastic bag yet this preacher does not practice her own beliefs is this a case of your buisness is going down the tubes and will do anything to have it mentioned in the paper?????

Green Girls Global isn’t about judging people for what they do and don’t do, but to celebrate the differences that people across the world are trying to make.

Hi all.
I’d just like to say thanks to all who are supporting the plastic bag free campaign. It has rolled out all over the uk. A lot of people like me are trying to make a small difference in their area, our motto in Cowal and Dunoon is ‘Think Global, Act Local’.
And to ‘anonymous’, I got your letter as well, thanks.
For the record, I have given up my shop to consentrate on my passion of reducing my carbon footprint. I now work for ALIenergy, a not for profit charity organisation, we are opening 7 information and advice points across Argyll to bring information to the doorstep of householders in Argyll. These will be located in Bute,Dunoon,Lochgilphead,Islay,Mull,Cairndow and Balloch. Lookout for posters and your local press for more details. All info and advice is free, and we can help with grants too.
